Welcome to UBC’s Sport and Performance Psychology lab!
The mission of the our research group is to understand the factors that enable teams, and individuals within those teams, to thrive in pursuit of their goals. We are particularly interested in the psychology of team effectiveness—in short, how can teams reach their full potential? The majority of our research focuses on sport, but we also study teams in other high-performance domains such as healthcare, business, and military settings.
We employ a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct our research, and we are fortunate to collaborate with industry partners and researchers from around the world. Some of our recent work and current projects centre around concepts such as teamwork, collective thriving, team resilience, psychological safety, team cohesion, and leadership. Feel free to browse our website at your leisure and don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to discuss anything further.

Our lab is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) People. This land has been a place of learning for the Musqueam people, who for millennia have passed on in their culture, history, and traditions from one generation to the next. We are privileged to work and learn on this land and extend our gratitude to its traditional owners and caretakers.
